Bubble Belly

From the beginning, Sylvie Truong, owner of Bubble Belly, loved Davis. Although she and her family live in Vacaville, most of her free time was spent here, enjoying the Davis community.

“I love Davis,” shared Sylvie, “We were always here. We came to farmers market every weekend. We brought the kids here. We walked the town. It has that feeling of community.”

So, when it came time to turn her online store into a brick-and-mortar store, Davis became the home for Bubble Belly.

As luck would have it, Sylvie was able to lease the “cute little chalet” at the corner of G and 4th streets. “It was very serendipitous. I was always kind of keeping my eyes open for a retail location. This cute little building popped up, and I had to see it.”

Sylvie was excited about opening her store in downtown Davis. “My online store was great. We did a lot of trade shows. But I really wanted to make that human connection.”

Soon thereafter, Bubble Belly opened its doors to the Davis community.

“The point of Bubble Belly was to bring maternity wear and children’s clothing together into one place and to make mom’s lives easier.” That is exactly what she has been doing over the last 13 years.

Over the years, Bubble Belly has expanded its clothing line to meet customer demand. “When we first opened, we had clothing for newborns, toddlers, and maternity. Then we gradually expanded to mini kids, tweens, and then into teens. That led us into offering women’s clothing.”

Bubble Belly’s success is likely a result of making it easy for moms by having stylish clothing and gifts for women and children all in one place.

As a boutique, Sylvie focuses on bringing high-quality clothing and accessories to her customers. “I try to source from smaller designers and independents. We do have some larger lines too.”

“I'm very particular in what I bring into the store. I frequently hear the comments, ‘I like your store, it is so special.’, ‘I love the products that you bring in.’, and ‘I am so happy with my gift.’” It makes me proud that my hard work is noticed.”

In today’s environment, it is easy to shop online or at larger retail outlets. Sylvie hopes that you will first consider shopping locally and shopping in downtown Davis. “Small business owners want to create that special place in your town. We put our heart and soul into the store, to serve our customers, and to make that personal connection.

Bubble Belly goes that extra mile for customers by offering same-day delivery. Sylvie likes to joke, “We are actually faster than Amazon. If you order something, you can have it delivered today, within the hour, by me, wrapped nicely, in a beautiful box or gift bag. Yeah, you won't get that from Amazon.” Bubble Belly offers same-day delivery service throughout Yolo and Solano counties.

“We do offer free shipping and free gift wrapping. For the holidays, we can actually ship for our customers. Which is amazing because people don't want to stand in line at the post office during the holidays.”

Sylvie loves having her business located in downtown Davis. Besides making it easy for her customers, she loves to “sneak out” and enjoy all that downtown Davis has to offer. “I’ll put up a sign saying I’ll be right back, go pick up something from downtown.” Some of her favorite downtown spots include Good Friends Poke, Café Bernardo, and Zia’s Delicatessen.

Sylvie feels blessed by the support she and her business receive here in Davis. In return, she does her best to give back to the community. “I try to do as much as I can with diaper donations for the Yolo Crisis Nursery. I do like to support our local clubs and schools with donations to help with their fundraisers.”

The Christmas holidays hold a special place in Sylvie’s heart. “I love the holiday parade and the tree lighting. During the holiday tree lighting, we always do snow flurries for the kids.”

If you are thinking that “snow flurries” are some kind of ice cream, you are mistaken. Sylvie brings in equipment to make it snow out in front of her Bubble Belly store. It is the real deal.

“I love to create events where kids can come and really enjoy themselves. So, the kids come and they get to play in the snow. It's fun, it's festive, and it's the holidays!”
