Did you ever think that frozen yogurt could make you dance? Well, it certainly can. Take a little time and hang out at YoloBerry Yogurt and you can watch people who literally dance into the shop to get their customized frozen treat. “Everyone is happy here,” shares Lee Pflugrath, owner of YoloBerry Yogurt. “We have good house music going. People dance in line and have a good time.”
YoloBerry Yogurt was started in 2008 by Lee Pflugrath along his business partner and friend, Ryan Brand. After building a successful career in the Sonoma restaurant industry, Lee, a Davis native, made the decision to return and used his restaurant and bar design experience to launch his own business. “I grew up here. I had a lot of roots here. I knew the town well. Looking for a change.” That decision has resulted in what many consider to be the most popular frozen yogurt shop in Northern California. YoloBerry is now operated by Lee and his wife, Laura Winton, also a Davis native. Laura and Lee are both graduates of Davis High School.
The flavors of yogurt are important at YoloBerry. “Everybody wants vanilla, period. Then chocolate. Then the third is probably cookies & cream,” says Lee. There are specialty flavors that are a hit as well. “Nutella is popular. There’s a new flavor that we’ve discovered called Cookie Monster. It’s blue, sweet, and has Oreos in it. Kids love it. Parents love it.” So, when you arrive at YoloBerry, grab a cup and add your favorite yogurt.
After the yogurt comes the toppings. YoloBerry offers 101 different toppings to choose from. This is what makes YoloBerry unique. “No yogurt shop at the time, and still to this day, has a hundred one toppings. So that’s how we stand apart from other yogurt shops.” It is true. You can select from a variety of candies, crumbled cookies, sauces, and fresh fruits to customize your creation. Oh, don’t forget the whipped cream and sprinkles.
Not only do people love the yogurt, it seems that true love can also be found at YoloBerry. “We’ve had four marriages out of this place. A lot of blind dates. We’ve had people invite us to their weddings because this is where they met and this is where they proposed,” shared both Laura and Lee. “We had a bench out front. That was where one couple met on their blind date, and that’s where he proposed.”
Laura and Lee both enjoy having a business in downtown Davis. Right across from Central Park makes for a great view when spending time and enjoying your yogurt in front of Yoloberry. “The best part is getting to know the families,” shared Laura. “We get to know them on a first-name basis. We get to know the kids.”
Offering a great product and building relationships seems to be working well for them. Not only do people in town enjoy a visit to YoloBerry, people who have moved away return for a serving of that creamy and delicious yogurt. “You have those who graduated and they are alums and they come into town for the weekend for something and they still have their YoloBerry card and they come back here.”
Laura and Lee understand that the community plays a big part in the success of YoloBerry. It is likely difficult to find someone in Davis who hasn’t visited YoloBerry for a cool treat. In return, they generously return that support to the community. “We really give back to the community. My accountant says I’m more generous than I probably should be, but that’s how I operate. I never say no to a fundraiser,” shared Lee. Perhaps that is why he was scheduled himself for four crab feeds in one day.

Both Laura and Lee consider the downtown as the heart of the community. For many years, Lee lived and worked in downtown Davis, becoming part of the social and business fabric. Now, married and no longer living downtown, both Laura and Lee continue to support the downtown by dining and shopping at our local restaurants and retail stores. You may run into Lee while having breakfast at Café Bernardo or into Laura as she shops at Pinkadot.
